Ode To The Drama Teacher

by admin on December 12, 2011

I am not exaggerating when I say that I owe my very life to the teachers, coaches and camp counselors (yes, I went to theatre camp – Camp Harand, anyone?) who taught me how to act and, in the process, taught me how to live.

This past October I was delighted to be asked to present two days worth of workshops for CETA (California Educational Theatre Association: http://www.cetoweb.org) at their annual retreat at Asilomar, CA.  We had a blast.  To honor them and the extraordinary work of teachers everywhere, I wrote this poem.

Ode To The Drama Teacher

And as you stand there: Aghast
Because we’re three days from Opening Night and
Ado Annie still doesn’t know her lines and
The Dream Ballet is a Nightmare and
The Light Board Op just got Detention…

Let us now praise You.

You, the Permanently Fatigued.
You, the Loyal-to-the-Point-of-Self-Neglect.
You, the Keeper of a Thousand-and-Eleventeen Secret Dreams.

You are the one who makes it all Look So Easy.
Who would have expected that the most important Skill you learned getting your BA
Was Juggling?

Juggling Paperwork and Personalities and oh, right – weren’t you supposed to have a
Private Life around here somewhere?

But even though you are Sick to Death of
Spoon River Anthology
You still puddle up every time you hear
There’s A Place For Us
No matter how Off-Key.

And while you still remember when you
Brought the House Down in
Midsummer
You now love This House.

You have created a House where any child – no matter how Flamboyant, no matter how Shy –
Can embrace their Inner Ethel Merman (and thanks to those English 101 classes you now must teach, you are keenly aware that using “their” in the previous sentence is increasingly considered correct and honestly, it’s really the only sensible answer as writing “his or her” is as damaging to poetry as the participle that dangles.)

And you have created a House where any child – no matter how Flamboyant, no matter how Shy – can dive straight to the Deepest, Darkest, Quietest corner of human suffering and bring a room of teenagers – and yes, you, too – to silent tears.

You have made a Home for the Misunderstood
A Family for the Misfit and a
Safe Spot to land no matter how bad The Mid-Terms are.

Because despite all the Budget Cuts and
The Paperwork and
The Meetings about the Meeting to Schedule the Meetings and
The Truancies and
The Parents
Dear God The Parents and
Did we mention The Paperwork?

Nothing on this Green Earth compares to watching a group of kids
Learn the true meaning of Ensemble.

And nothing compares to the pure joy of watching The Ones whom you knew would Eventually Get It
Finally. Really. Get It.

And nothing nothing nothing compares to The Confidences shared in low tones as they seek you out in
Your Office,
The Choir Room
The Front Seat of the Van on the way home from Fullerton.

You aren’t teaching Drama.
You are teaching Life
Which we all know is a Comedy – a Chekhovian Comedy – but a Comedy nonetheless.

And you aren’t teaching Choreography
You are teaching them to Dance.

And you aren’t teaching them how to be a Character.
You are teaching them how to be Themselves.

So here’s to you –

Making room for Art in a world that seems to have no room for Art.

(Because, by the way, that room has been repurposed as the new Standardized Test Prep Center – you don’t mind rehearsing outside, do you?)

And here’s to you –

Scrounging around for new shows that somehow match the sets you already have
Because some Genius on the School Board has
Recently Announced that not only can you not perform Huckleberry Finn
Or Anouilh’s Antigone (probably because he couldn’t pronounce it) and
Given the flap over theScene from M. Butterfly last year, I guess
March of the Falsettos and The Vagina Monologues are
Out of the Question for the Spring

So Oh Dear God it looks like it’s going to be
Arsenic And Old Lace one more blessed time.

But that’s OK

I love Arsenic And Old Lace.

So here’s to you –

Making room for Another Coffee Mug with
Those Damn Masks on them
Making room in the Chorus for
Just One More
And

Making room for Each and Every Child
To Be
A
Star.

(Amazing!) – you’re going to love this….

by admin on November 2, 2011

I’ve never gotten so much email about a webinar before…

The 6-Session Get It Done Live Workshop starts tomorrow and it’s not too late for you to join in…

So if you catch yourself wondering…

- How do I find the time between work and home and the projects that I need to get done?

- How do I decide what to do first?

- How do I learn to say “no” to friends who interrupt/don’t understand my work time without feeling guilty?

- I get day to day things accomplished, no prob. But projects, like a book, that I say are important to me go weeks without me touching them. I think about them. But don’t work on them. That creates a whole set of self-loathing thoughts etc and more procrastination!

- I have unfinished paintings from new acrylic painting class. I bring them home with good intentions, but can’t make myself pick up a brush to finish. Even though I’ve been told I’m good at painting, I feel inadequate…Lack courage.

- How to I get rid of my negative emotional attachment to doing work I dislike?

- I start cleaning up and throwing away things but then it seems it looks worse than before I started. How do I continue to work organizing and throwing away things instead of getting overwhelmed and giving up until the next time I get up the courage to start again?

- How do I deal with underlying fear of failure

- When or how can I know when to let a project be unfinished/leave it and be okay with it never being finished or perhaps at a much later time?

- I’d like to know the key to staying focused & how to stop procrastinating…

And maybe you’d rather be saying things like…

“Samantha, Thanks for your wonderful teleclass! I am sending you an email so that we can work together so that I can figure out a way to thank you with $365 for sharing your gifts”. – Susan, CA

“YOU are an amazing GIFT and I am grateful for this call today! Thanks for helping me to clear my cobwebs and embracing the beautifulness that we ALL are! YOU Rock!” – Cathy, OC

“Thanks Sam. I needed that. You are a depth beyond real and gloriously sunlit.” – Kay, PDR

“Samantha, Your program has been fabulous…gives me chills and tears just listening to you…I am inspired! Thank you for sharing…will be signing up.” – Irene, GH

“I LOVE your sense of humor and your energy!” – Anon.

And if you want more evidence, just wait until you hear how I answer these questions on the latest, last live event from today (find the replay here: http://InstantTeleseminar.com/?eventid=23929068)

How can I get totally clear about what is most important to me to create … which kind of Artist I am …? E., Italy

I have creative ADD (that’s what I call it) which leads to beginning many projects, getting overwhelmed – and then never finishing. ~ It sounds like your workshop addresses this. – T., VA

So, better to prioritize or spend 15 minutes daily on more than one unfinished project? – S., CA

Sam, from what you shared it occurs to me that there is an artistry to business making and that business is rarely presented in an artistic light. But isn’t it all part of creating? – K., CA

My biggest obstacles to getting it done are that my office is always a hopeless mess, social media suck my time away, and I have giant piles of stuff to do that overwhelm me. Help! – A., Canada

Can only listen for first 15 minutes or so but want to hear this! How can I get this later? – B, CA (of course – here you go!)

How would you differentiate your approach with the kind of organization & daily duties needed to be highly successful in a home business? Thanks – T., TN

Thank you for being real!! Thanks for feeling the excitement being with you and addressing the “amazing unfinished projects”. Love hearing you — D., NJ

Then you are ready to join The Get It Done Workshop!

If your intuition is encouraging you to give The Get It Done Workshop (starts Thursday, Nov. 3) a try, then I double-dog dare you to GO FOR IT!

P.S. “Just chiming in here: Sam’s [Get It Done] webinar/workshop is the best workshop I have ever taken. In fact, I’m taking it again because I have a different project and the container she manages to create is pretty miraculous. She is really unique, in both her delivery and her wisdom. So You Wanna Write A Book – Day 3

by admin on October 6, 2011

Jodi asks:
How do I overcome that sense of “who the hell do I think I am?” that stops me from really trying?

Oh, Jodi – I think we all have that cruel, critical voice inside our heads. So first of all, just take that in. EVERYBODY feels that way. Even great writers and published authors.

I believe that that voice is just trying to keep you safe – trying to protect you from getting hurt. So can you imagine that voice being like some caricature of an over-protective mother, wringing her hands and wailing? Or if not that, can you give that voice some other character?

(And really, what’s the underlying assumption here: that only people with big heads write? That you have to be a pretentious ego-freak to write? That somehow writing a book will turn you into a pretentious ego-freak? You can see how silly it sounds when you put it like that…)

Whenever you hear that sharp, stifling voice in your head, it means you’re about to step out into the unknown, and you’ll want to marshal all your resources to keep yourself centered and calm.

Treat yourself as you would a very bright nine-year old. Talk back to the voice (and I often say this kind of stuff out loud when I’m freaking out) in a calm, clear voice and try saying something like:

- “I think I’m a person who’s going to try writing…want to help?”
- “I’m the same Child of the Universe I’ve always been….and I’m writing.”
- “This is an experiment…let’s just see what happens.”

Somehow thinking of everything as being in “beta” really calms me down, too.

So just remember that voice isn’t “real” and keep working. After all, that voice doesn’t come up when you’re actually writing, now does it?
- Sam.

Kristin asked:
I am writing a CNF book about my heart disease…my experience, my healing protocol (based on strategies outside the AMA guidelines), and the metaphysics behind my disease. I have an important message to share but I am not a doctor. I’m wrestling with how much of the medical aspects to share, given that I am not an expert. I don’t want to sound like I am promoting a cause…I just want to make people aware of the success of alternative approaches and share my story. Any advice?

Lots of advice, Kristin.

First, you’ll need to decide if this is a memoir or self-help book with memoir elements. If memoir, you can just share your experience and don’t get too technical, but just enough so that people can understand what they need to. (I always get lost when I start reading about the different chemicals produced by the body, for instance).

If it’s a self-help book, you might consider having a co-author who writes a short medical explanation (again, geared towards a lay audience) in a sidebar in each chapter. That way, your book gets the credibility of an MD, another person to promote the book, and the reader does get medical information.

However, you can also just give the bare bones required from a medical standpoint, check with an MD or DO to make sure you are accurate and leave out the more technical aspects.

Or have technical aspects in an appendix (I’d be less likely to do this–I don’t think your audience necessarily needs all the medical explanations from you–they can find it on the internet or elsewhere).

Does that help?
- Lisa Tener

Another great question we did not get to on our call, Leigh asked:

Do write your book then write your book proposal?

It depends. In almost all cases, agents and publishers want to see a complete memoir before they sign on with you. You’ll need the whole book for a book deal.

On the other hand, with How-to books you can write the proposal first. In some cases, that’s a good thing, because you may get feedback from your agent or publisher that would change the book.

However, some books beg to be written before the proposal–you’ll know if you get that intuitive sense.

And there are other reasons to write the book first. The attached blog post explains about “orphans.”

Rachel Asks —
Hi Lisa! I have a question for you: What should a new author do to ensure they get an agent? And how do you know if its a good match?

Hi Rachel, you’ll want to write a book proposal–I recommend Michael Larsen’s How to Write a Book Proposal for nonfiction books. Have the book proposal ready to go before you send a query letter.

Then:

1) identify good matches (agents who are looking for books in your genre and have an interest in that type of book. Look in the acknowledgments section of complementary books to yours. You can also search online for appropriate agents. And going to writer’s conferences is an ideal way to meet agents and even pitch your book to them (and skip the query step).

2) unless you’ve met the agent and they requested to see the proposal, query the agents in a brief e-mail or 1 page letter and see if they are interested in seeing the full proposal. The Larsen book gives great info on query letters as well.

3) send proposal to those who requested and mark left corner of envelope “requested material enclosed.”

4) If the agent is not interested, ask for feedback–what would it take to make the proposal or book more attractive? Often agents and publishers want to see that you have a significant following. If that’s an issue, you may need to beef up your following online (and offline too).

So You Wanna Write A Book – Day 2

by admin on October 5, 2011

In which Lisa Tener & I attempt to answer some of your many, many questions about writing a book… : )

Judith asks: “I have many book ideas. I have books (nonfiction, poetry and fairy tales) started and waiting to be finished. What will help me know which direction to go and then stay focused?”

First of all, Judith – congratulations on your productivity!

YAY!

I have two answers for you:

1) Do a DEEP gut check – a guided meditation, a long prayer session, go for a run or a swim or a long rambling walk – whatever works for you to really tune in to your highest self – and see which project really sings out to you. After all, you can make a case for any of them, right? And you love them all? So see which one has the most shimmering light on it and go with that one.

2) Use the same method some people use to pay off their credit cards: either pick the one that’s closest to being done and finish that one, or pick the one with the highest interest rate (best return on investment) and finish that one.

Good luck! – Sam.

Liza asks: I have a question: How do you copyright written work? Specifically, for a blog? Thank you!

Written work is automatically copyrighted. You can also put copyright at the bottom of your blog (with the year) for clarity. I do that on my website. There is an official place to register copyright (http://www.copyright.gov/) (there is a …fee), but you can also mail the document in a sealed envelope and have usps stamp the sealed part with the date. And don’t open it when you receive it back in the mail. It makes it admissible evidence in court is what I have heard from several experts).
U.S. Copyright Office
www.copyright.gov

Stefan had two questions, and we had several variations from others on both these questions:
1. What if we feel it won’t be any good?
2. How do we know it hasn’t been written before? (i.e. original idea)

1. First, my experience with clients (many of whom do not think of themselves as writers) has shown me that, almost all the time, if you have a prompting to write something, that’s coming from your inner wisdom, your source, and there’s a reason for it. Unlikely that your source wants you to write a piece of junk, right?

Now, it may come out sounding like junk the very first time you start writing, especially if you’ve never written a book before or don’t think you’re a good writer. So, you may want to get some help in getting started and hire a writing coach or editor to help you write the best book you can. A good coach or editor will teach you to edit your own work.

There are just a few rules that can take your writing from ho-hum to hot-diggity-dog and you can learn them fairly quickly. And then it just takes discipline to keep applying them when you revise your work.

So, trust your “muse” and also get professional support and you can make sure it truly is good.

2. Do some research in bookstores or online and see what’s out there. Publishers and agents actually like to see that there are other books out there on your subject, so they know there’s a market for it.

Ask yourself what you have to offer that’s different from what’s out there. Perhaps it’s a deeper look at the same topic, a new angle on the topic, or just your voice and your stories that make it different. Maybe it’s the specific niche you’re writing for. Or the experiential exercises (or other feature) that you’ll provide in the book.

No one has written “your” book in “your voice” before. So, do your research, but also go inwards and ask your muse, your creative self, what will make my book unique? And why will people need it and buy it? – Lisa Tener

So You Wanna Write A Book – Day 1

by admin on October 3, 2011

Lisa Tener & I are answering questions on her Facebook page that we couldn’t get to during our event — here they are for you non-Facebook-ers out there : )

Lisa writes:
Here’s our first question from Friday’s call:

Catherine asked for 3 ways you can find an agent.

1) Attend conferences where you can pitch to agents or meet agents. One example is the international women writers guild (men invited too) Meet the Agents event during the big apple conference. For under $100 you can attend the meet the agents session in NYC, hear what the individual agents are lookin…g for an pitch your book to them.

2) Look for books that are similar to yours in field, but not too close that they’d compete (more of a complementary book) and look at author’s acknowledgements or search on the web to see who the agent was.

3) Connect with agents through social media. Read blogs by literary agents. Follow them on twitter. Tweet about their posts on their blogs, their successes and any articles they write.

And Sam writes:

Nedi asks:
“How do you know which format is best for a book – audio set of CDs, paper book, self-publishing, …I’ve even thought of a YouTube slide show of my contents!”

My first thought would be to publish in a format/medium you like, use and are familiar with. Picking a format you already like gives you the benefit of your own knowledge capital – which puts you further down the road. Which i…s good.

When picking a format, consider ease of use (for you and your readers) and time/money expense. While it’s well-worth investing in your own work, I wouldn’t advise going into debt to do it.

Once you get your work out into the world in one format you can then get feedback, tweak and adjust as necessary and then re-purpose your work in a secondary or tertiary format.

Have FUN! – Sam.

Are You Sure It’s Impossible?

by admin on September 15, 2011

The Stuntwoman - Lesley Perdomo

...Because you told me I was a stuntwoman and I believed you... by Lesley Perdomo

Inspiration #1: Are You Sure It’s Impossible?

In honor of her 50th birthday, my friend Colleen Wainwright gave herself 50 days to raise $50,000 for WriteGirls, which is a ten-year old LA-based mentorship program that partners teenage girls with women writers — so far, 100% of the WriteGirl girls have gone on to college so that’s how good this group is…

And here’s been the response: she’s raised over $135,000.

Yep.  That’s how big of a difference one woman with a lot of help and a lot of heart can make.

I know…it makes me all puddle up, too.

Inspiration #2: Because You Told Me I Was A Stuntwoman And I Believed You…

I got this email the other day and it, too, made me weep with joy –

Hi Samantha,

I wanted to thank you and share a story with you.

I had a one on one conversation with you back in 2010, that was set up through Connie Costa, where we discussed goals and how I can accomplish certain projects on a daily basis. It was a quick 30 minute conversation – but man was it powerful!

I will be honest, I didn’t believe you at first. You were so adamant about how only 15 minutes a day can help you complete a project……”yeah right” is something that kept coming up in my head. It was that same voice that always held me back from starting any project because I never knew where to start.

Whether I was starting a necklace or a painting, I always felt that if I started it, then I had to finish it right then and there….and that is a lot of pressure, so I would sometimes just shrug off some great ideas that I had. Well I had nothing to lose by following your advice.

I would set the timer on my cell phone, and started a necklace right away. It took me three 15 minute sessions to complete one, but by the end of the week, I had 3 more necklaces than I had anticipated.

I filled in my 15 minutes with production and I started to value what 15 minutes can bring you in a day….or a week…..or a month!….So I decided to transfer this wisdom to my paintings.

Sometimes those 15 minutes would place me in a zone where I dedicated more time, however, if I only had 15 minutes to give to a project, I was okay with it. My project wasn’t going anywhere, and sometimes that gave me more time to think of a more creative way to complete or approach a project.

So what I am sharing with you today is a painting that I started in February of 2011 and I finally completed it August 2011.

This Painting (see attached) is very meaningful and expresses the journey that I have embarked on thanks to you.

The background is a tile collage of different tattoo images that I found in various tattoo magazines (again, this was 15 minutes a day that I would skim through magazines, and I would cut out my favorite images). Soon, I had collected enough to where I felt that I could fill up the Canvas (that again – different 15 minute segments to where I finally glued every corner of that canvas) Once the canvas was filled, on came the painting of the woman. That was a few 15 minute segments – to where I learned how to continually get skin tone shades and I played around with shadows and hair, etc.)

And I will be honest, sometimes those 15 minute segments would be of me just staring at the canvas. I wouldn’t lift a paintbrush – just stare at it and try to figure out what the next move would be.

But those 15 minutes of thought is what helped bring about the spiderweb, the filigree, and the crystals……all of this helped me complete this Painting.

This painting that I call THE STUNTWOMAN, thanks to you. “You are a stuntwoman” is something that you said to me – I have it written down in those notes that I took when we had that conversation back in 2010.

You helped me find a balance in my life….in my career……by just appreciating 15 minutes everyday….So therefore, I dedicate this painting to you….and I can’t thank you enough……

Many Many Many Thanks,
Lesley Perdomo

(image attached – The Stuntwoman, 48″x36″, Acrylic & Mixed Media, Artist: Lesley Perdomo)

And when I wrote Lesley to ask if I could share her story with you, here’s what she wrote back:

Hi Samantha,

Of course you can send it out – They are sincere words and I would not omit anything…..I was speaking from the heart….The painting is proof that patience & 15 minutes a day can get you towards your goal. I live in such an instant gratification world that sometimes15 minutes to partially work on a project seems insane – but it is a process….and I work on this everyday…..

I also purchased your book – 365 Reasons to Write- and I substitute the word WRITE with DRAW….I have it here in my cubicle and when I’m having those moments where I feel so defeated, I open it up to a random page and absorb the reason that is presented to me……

I have an office job during the day, and at night I am a tattoo apprentice……In order to be a great tattoo artist, you have to draw, draw, and draw some more….and it is amazing to achieve some breakthroughs, but one day I totally felt like quitting…..I felt like I wasn’t going anywhere…I felt so defeated….

That my day job was enough to get me through life because my passion of drawing was diminishing…..and then I opened up your book…and reason #20 was right in front of me – “20) Your rival is writing” is what it said…..of course, in my mind, I read it as your rival is tattooing.

I immediately snapped out of my pity party and remembered my long term goal.

Well, I am glad to say that those 15 minutes of drawing everyday and my determination have led me to put in my resignation at my day job, and starting October 1, 2011 – I will be full time at the tattoo shop, and considered an official tattoo artist! Wooooooo! I am so excited.

This journey has taken me two years to achieve…..and it all started with the power of 15 minutes…..getting out of my comfort zone….pushing myself…..trusting the process….appreciating time….and looking forward to the next 15 minutes…..I seriously can’t thank you enough Samantha….

Thank you Thank you Thank you. I will be working at HOLLYWOOD STARS TATTOO | 9200 South Sepulveda Blvd | Los Angeles, CA 90045. We are 2 minutes away from LAX airport, right across the street from in-n-out burger. It is one of the coolest tattoo shops in town – but even cooler because I wll be there full time starting October! Woooooo! I’m excited and scared all at the same time……but all will be good…..I know it will…..because the world needs my art, right? :)

THANK YOU!
Lesley Perdomo

So…what impossible thing would you like to try today?

Yours,

Sam

Get Your Work Out There Home Study Kit

by admin on September 5, 2011

Here’s a gift to celebrate the launch of Get Your Work Out There Home Study Kit accompanied by the world’s longest post –

Remember – this offer is only good until Wed. Sept. 7th at 12midnight Pacific Time and then the price goes up to $747) CLICK HERE to check it out: https://sambennett.infusionsoft.com/saleform/nathniftf

Today’s Gift: The Get Your Work Out There Project Assessment Worksheet

Working Right Off The Top Of Your Head, Complete These Sentences:

1. My project is unique because:

________________________________________________________

Bottom line: Whatever you’re doing is unique because YOU are doing it. Your particular spin, your flavor, your energy stamps it with an undeniable identity.

2. My best friends describe me as:

________________________________________________________

Bottom line: It’s all been said before. But not by you.

3. I decided to do this project because: ______________________________________________________

Bottom line: Whatever you did to get here makes you uniquely qualified to create what you’re creating – to produce what you’re producing. Your hunger – your thirst – your desire to make this or do this is the first thing that qualifies you to be its engine.

4. What makes you the perfect person to execute this project? _______________________________________________________

Bottom line: If you don’t create this project, all that pain and heartbreak and joy and discovery will have been for naught.

5. If you had found this project (rather than creating it) what difference might it have made in your life? ______________________________________________________

6. Just out of curiosity, how much would you have paid to have it? _______________________________________________________

Bottom line: It’s likely that your project is worth at least three times what you would have paid for it. It’s likely that there are thousands if not millions of people who are hungry for what you’re working on – who are curious about what you know – thirsty for what you offer.

7. Who else has done something like this before? _______________________________________________________

Bottom line: Find out who they are and what they did right and how different you are. They are your friends and teachers.

OK. Take a breath. Good job.

Now make some notes — you’ll remember it all better if you write it down.

Do you have any tips on How to get past the “starving artist Mindset” & the idea that I need to “Suffer for my Art” for it to be any good and worthwhile? [We answered] Thank you so much for answering my question — your responses brought a tear to my eye and I will use them as my new mantra. Thanks to you both — this artist won’t “suffer” any longer!!!

M. – London
Hi! :) Just wondering how to know which one project to focus on…. I get overwhelmed and end up procrastinating about everything! [We answered] Thank you so much for answering my question – (I’m a bit delayed on the broadcast as I had to pause for a few minutes) but thanks :) that really helped!

T.- NYC
I’m struggling writing a book that is on a subject that is very new age-ish…. What would you suggest to keep your book grounded but also go far and push the boundaries without losing the audience? [We answered] Thank you! And thank you for answering my question. You have given me a wonderful surge of energy and trust in my own work.

D. – Barstow
The energy shifted from being stuck when I [did our exercise on the webinar]…

D. – Holland
I really appreciate your honesty and I am more motivated than ever….I feel like I am constantly learning more and more about myself. Thanks guys

S. – no location
First: I want to thank you both SO MUCH for your particular brilliance on these calls. As an artist, I feel so understood and inspired in ways other calls do not touch. It is uncanny how you nail it!!! Two questions: What inspiration have you about the treadmill of: not having the financial resources to purchase supportive resources like this that would help one get unstuck. I love what you said about discarding “starving artists.” That said, my current income being what it (and what it isn’t) and given that I have tried to stop debting., It is a huge stretch and would involve debting to buy this wonderful program. What to do? [Wait until you hear how we answered this one!]

C – Delray Beach, Florida
I just wanted to say, should anyone be thinking you’d LOVE to do this, Go For It!!! I did NOT BUT I put every ounce of what Sam & Steve shared [and continue sharing] when they first launched GYWOT. And has my Life ever bloomed!!! With Sam in my corner this year, actually these last 9 months, I have a really hard time remembering who I used to BE before I met her. HOT HOT HOT!!! Go. DO IT!! BELIEVE in YOU and your gifts!! [Thanks, C!]

Get It Done Session One: Clarifying Your Goals, or, What To Do When You Have 37 Projects In Mind And You Can’t Decide

This is one VERY action-packed recording – you might want to listen to it twice, once just to kind of soak it in and a second time with worksheets and pencils in hand.

Get It Done Session Two: Creating Your Personalized Project Plan, or, Budgeting and Scheduling The FUN, Creative Way… (Kind Of…)

In which I introduce you to some of my favorite tools for moving forward. I created these tools because while there are lots of good business-type books out there, let’s face it – we don’t care who’s moved our cheese. What the creative person needs is a practical way to manage our often impractical lives. Here it is.

Get It Done Session Three: Looking Under The Rock, or, Breaking Through Internal Barriers To Success

This session sounds like it might be depressing, but I find the deep honesty here really uplifting. You can actually hear the sound of people breaking through their old stories and moving into a new way of being.

Bonus Recording #1: You and Your Big Ideas

“Yep – that works I absolutely LOOOOOOOOVED this class – thank you, thank you, thank you ))))” – A.Z., Denmark

“Wow!! Somehow that opened the door to my mind and heart…some block or barrier in myself has been torn down, if not totally, than for the most part. I am starting to REALLY believe I can do this book…I am so glad I signed up for this!” – Diane Fial, Colorado

This is a recording I made with my dear friend Amy Ahlers, The Wake-Up Call Coach that explores some of the reasons that you might not have been moving forward on the projects that mean the most to you. Perhaps it simply hasn’t been the right time, maybe you’ve been scared (and who wouldn’t be!) or perhaps you don’t really care about this project anymore – which says to me that your inner wisdom has a better idea waiting for you.

Bonus Recording #2: Procrastination Is Genius In Disguise

“Thanks for offering such an insightful teleconference on procrastination. You really delivered lots of practical information, exercises and tips. The exercises are straightforward, easy to use and yield “can do” action steps. Very impressive! So many of these “free” calls are mostly fluff and advertising! I appreciate the insight that the brains of creative people get overloaded and shut down because of too many variables and unknowns. That right there explains a lot! All good wishes for your continued happiness, success, and abundance.” – Elizabeth Hyland, M. Div., Author of Surviving The Unemployment Roller Coaster: From Stress To Success www.UnemploymentRollerCoaster.com
This is the recording of one of the most powerful (and popular!) preview classes I’ve ever offered. Again, there’s a little pitch in there in the middle, but it only lasts a few minutes, and of course you’re free to fast-forward through that part. Do give it a listen, though – and find out how YOUR procrastination truly is a form of GENIUS.

Bonus Recording #3: Bouncing Back From Disappointment: Three NEW Strategies To REALLY Get Over It

This is an unusual call, but I really love it. And the transformations people have experienced from this simple exercise have been both profound and beautiful.

Get It Done Session Four: Truth In Advertising, or, How To Talk About Your Work Honestly And Without Feeling Like You’re Bragging)

Everyone feels self-conscious sometimes, and it can be hard for us to accept praise. Figuring out how to talk about you and your work honestly cuts right through any anxiety about sounding “sales-y” or arrogant.

Get It Done Session Five: Teaching Our Shadows Grace

Another deep session featuring an astonishingly simple tool that can demolish destructive, self-limiting thoughts in an instant.

Bonus Recording #4: It’s The Money, Honey

This one was by request, so it’s a bit of a hodge-podge of the most important financial lessons I’ve ever learned. Lots of tools and resources on this one.

Get It Done Session Six: The Beginning Of Wisdom

We don’t slack off on this final recording – the amazing results just keep rolling in. You’ll find clarity, motivation and new commitment to your dreams in these study-at-your-own-pace sessions.

“I love your work…”

“Wow, your life is so perfect…”

“You changed my life…”

Sounds great, right? All that praise and approval?

Isn’t that just what you’ve always wanted?

So why do you have a horrible, sinking feeling in your stomach?

There are quite a few unexpected thoughts and feelings that can arise when you begin to be a successful public person:

  • “I’m a fraud.”
  • “Everyone thinks my life is perfect and it is SO not perfect – I feel awful.”
  • “Why is being so popular so exhausting?”

Don’t worry – you’re not crazy. You’re just dealing with a very wonderful problem.

Here’s the link to the blog post I created about this topic for the wonderful people over at CreateHype.com:

http://createhype.com/why-it%E2%80%99s-so-awful-when-everyone-thinks-you%E2%80%99re-so-wonderful/

And here’s the free audio event I recorded about this topic:

I’d love to hear your thoughts….
